Ray Rice and his fiancee got into some sort of fight over the weekend in Atlantic City, and both were arrested. The statement that was released called it a “minor altercation.”

Does this look minor? According to video obtained by TMZ – it looks like some employee recorded this on their cell phone off of security cameras; wonder what he got paid for that – Rice is seen dragging his unconscious finacee out of an elevator.

Stephen A. Smith off air for 1 week

ESPN has announced that commentator Stephen A. Smith will not be appearing on ESPN2’s “First Take” or on ESPN Radio for the next week. He will return Aug. 6.

In a statement to employees released Tuesday, ESPN president John Skipper said the following:

“As many of you know, there has been substantial news coverage in the past few days related to comments Stephen A. made last Friday in the wake of the NFL’s decision to suspend Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice for two games following charges of assaulting his then fiancée, now wife, a few months ago.

“We’ve said publicly and in this space that those remarks did not reflect our company’s point of view or our values. They certainly don’t reflect my personal beliefs.

CtPatriot: I think what Smith said was Over the top, but that kinda is what he does. But to Beat the Mother of your child and drag her around out cold is beyond human to me. Only 2 Games?  that’s ridiculous.

‘Born Free’ brings Kid Rock persona closer to Bob Ritchie

There’s a key lyric towards the end of , “Born Free,” when the erstwhile, self-proclaimed Early Morning Stoned Pimp and Devil Without a Cause sings that “For the first time in a long time/I’m done paying my dues/For the first time in a long time/I don’t feel used.”

“That couldn’t be more honest,” a T-shirted Rock says, reclining on a couch in the building on his Clarkston compound that houses his recording studio while a video crew sets up outside to begin shooting the clip for the title track and first single of “Born Free.”

“They don’t give you a playbook of how to operate when you gain a little fame and get success. It’s like learning how to walk. You’ve got to figure it out on your own.

“And like everybody else who’s been through it, I’ve surrounded myself with some bad people at times, went through some situations … And I really feel like now all the bull*** and drama’s out of my life, from girls to friends to anything. And I’m not gonna let it back in.”

There’s no question that as he prepares for the Tuesday, Nov. 16, release of his eighth studio album — the follow-up to 2007’s triple-platinum “Rock N Roll Jesus” — Rock, 39, (real name Bob Ritchie) is a guy who’s navigated the perils and pitfalls of his chosen profession well. The occasional high-profile romance and odd Waffle House assault incident rear their heads from time to time, but they’re eclipsed by his hit-making track record, ambitious business interests that include the Made In Detroit clothing line and his American Badass beer brand, and Rock’s community involvements both public and private.

What he’s actually created, not unlike rock veterans such as Alice Cooper and even Ozzy Osbourne, is a duality — a side of himself that lives an image, and a side that lives a life.

“Kenny Chesney texted — it was really early” in the morning, Rock recalls. “After I texted him back, he’s like, ‘Holy s***, I’m not gonna tell anybody Kid Rock is up this early.’ And I texted him back, ‘Kid Rock is not up this early. Bob Ritchie’s up this early. It’s his son’s first day of school … ’

“Then I said, ‘Kid Rock, make no mistake, is passed out in a … hotel room with some scantily clad (women) right now. That’s what he’s doing, but Bob Ritchie is taking pictures of his son going to school.’ ”

Sheriff: Broncos WR Kenny McKinley found dead

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos wide receiver Kenny McKinley was found dead in his apartment Monday in an apparent suicide.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said authorities were called to McKinley’s apartment in Centennial at 3:35 p.m. local time and found his body in the second-floor master bedroom. He said detectives believe McKinley, 23, was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Robinson said authorities were called by a female friend of McKinley’s who discovered the body after returning from an errand with his child. The sheriff declined to say if authorities found a suicide note.

“It’s still part of our investigation and probably nothing we’ll talk about right now,” he said.

McKinley’s death is the latest in a series for tragedies for the Broncos in recent years. Cornerback Darrent Williams was slain in a drive-by shooting on New Year’s Day 2007 and three months later backup running back Damien Nash collapsed and died after a charity basketball game in St. Louis.

“Everyone with the Broncos is shocked and saddened by the loss of Kenny McKinley,” team owner Pat Bowlen said in a statement. “He was part of the Broncos’ family and will be greatly missed by our organization. My most heartfelt condolences go out to Kenny’s family and friends.”

The Broncos said coach Josh McDaniels would meet with the media on Tuesday.

In a statement, McDaniels said: “Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room. This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family is in all of our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

McKinley was a second-year pro who was on the team’s injured reserve list with a knee injury. He played in eight games as a rookie in 2009 with seven kick returns for 158 yards before going on injured reserve with a knee injury on Dec. 29.

He recovered and participated in the team’s offseason workouts but got hurt again during the first week of training camp and was placed on IR with a knee injury on Aug. 5.

McKinley was a fifth-round draft choice out of South Carolina in 2009. He attended South Cobb High School in Austell, Ga.

McKinley remains South Carolina’s all-time leading receiver with 207 catches for 2,781 yards. He came back to the school earlier this month, watched the Gamecocks beat Georgia 17-6 and visited with his college coach, Steve Spurrier.

“Had a wonderful smile just like he always did,” Spurrier said.

Clinton Portis: Ines Sainz Is ‘Gonna Want Somebody’ (AUDIO)

The NFL is currently investigating the alleged harassment of Azteca TV reporter Ines Sainz at a New York Jets practice. Sainz has since spoken about the ongoing controversy, but she is not the only one to weigh in.

Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis spoke out about the situation on Tuesday. Talking on the Mike Wise Show on 106.7 The Fan, Portis explained that when there is a “nice woman” in a room with 53 men, they will “want to say something.”

Portis didn’t stop there. The Redskins star believes that Sainz was likely attracted to at least one of the Jets players. “You put a woman and you give her a choice of 53 athletes, somebody got to be appealing to her.” he said. “Somebody got to spark her interest, or she’s gonna want somebody. I don’t know what kind of woman won’t, if you get to go and look at 53 men’s packages.”

UPDATE: The NFL issued a statement on Portis’s comments: “The comments are clearly inappropriate, offensive and have no place in the NFL. We have contacted the Redskins & they will discuss the matter directly w/Mr. Portis.”

UPDATE, 3:39 PM ET: Portis has apologized for his remarks. “I was wrong to make the comments I did, and I apologize. I respect the job that all reporters do. It is a tough job and we all have to work and act in a professional manner. I understand and support the team on these issues.”

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) Ines Sainz says she never felt like she was “attacked” when she entered the New York Jets locker room on Saturday to interview quarterback Mark Sanchez.

“In my opinion, I never felt I was attacked,” the Mexican sportscaster told Spanish-language program DeporTV on Monday. “I went to the locker room and started to talk about commentary and sports. Another reporter approached me to say he was sorry these things were happening…and that evidently people were making fun of me.”

Prior to her presence in the locker room – where players called out to the TV Azteca reporter – footballs were thrown in her direction by a Jets coach during practice.

She told TV Azteca that though she was embarrassed, she didn’t take it to heart and didn’t realize it was going to become such a big deal, according to CNN.

“It was definitely a joking tone, very amicable,” Sainz said in an interview with a colleague. “I wasn’t offended.”

On Sunday, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said that the league and the Jets began looking into the situation when they were made aware of it Saturday night.

The Jets released a statement about the incident, saying that they “will continue to work with the League to gather the facts and take any appropriate steps necessary to maintain a respectful environment for the media.”

The statement says owner Woody Johnson spoke to Sainz on Sunday to discuss the incident, and that he “stressed to Ines that he expects all members of the Jets organization to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.”

Eagle FB Leonard Weaver Leaves Game With Gruesome Injury

After a great 2009 season, more good things were expected in 2010 out of veteran fullback Leonard Weaver of the Philadelphia Eagles. It could be some time, however, before he sees the field again.

Weaver suffered an awful-looking leg injury while carrying the ball in the second quarter of the Eagles’ opener Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

On a short run, Weaver was stood up by Packers Nick Barnett and B.J. Raji. As Raji — the bigger man of the two — hit Weaver high, his leg buckled underneath him.

When the play was shown on the stadium scoreboard, the sellout crowd at Lincoln Financial Field groaned loudly at the gruesome sight.

Weaver was helped off the field with what the Eagles initially said was a left knee sprain. He was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Weaver ran for 323 yards, caught 15 passes, and was credited with four total touchdowns — two rushing and two receiving — in 2009.

(UPDATE: ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that Weaver is believed to have a torn ACL that will end his 2010 season.)

(GRAPIC VIDEO) Ndamukong Suh Plays ‘Kill The QB’ With Brown’s Jake Delhomme

Video: Ndamukong Suh Roughs Up Browns QB Jake Delhomme

The good news for the Detroit Lions is that in rookie defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, they’ve found themselves a player who likes to rough up opposing quarterbacks.

The bad news is that if Suh makes a habit of roughing up opposing quarterbacks the way he did to Cleveland’s Jake Delhomme on Saturday, he’s going to get suspended.

In the second quarter of the Browns-Lions preseason game, Suh absolutely brutalized Delhomme.

Suh grabbed Delhomme by the facemask, yanked him down as he threw the ball away, then tossed him to the Ford Field turf like a rag doll. It was an ugly, dirty play, albeit a play that showed the kind of fiery aggressiveness that makes for a great defensive tackle.

When the referee announced the penalty, the fans in Detroit started to boo, but if anything, Suh was lucky he got nothing more than a 15-yard facemask penalty.

The ref easily could have given Suh two separate personal fouls, one for the facemask and one for throwing Delhomme down after the facemask, and even would have been justified in ejecting Suh. There’s no question that Suh will get fined by the league.
